Clay Program (more info to come for 2022-2023)
The clay program is a big part of arts education at Daves Avenue. All TK/K - 5th grade students will have the opportunity to create 3-4 clay projects throughout the school year.
Lead Clay Parents Needed - No Experience Necessary! Estimated Time Requirement for the Year: 16-20 hours
The success of the clay program depends upon parent participation. We are seeking a Lead Clay Parent for each classroom. Lead Clay Parents will work with the teacher to choose and schedule projects, and to assemble a team of parents to assist in class on project days (K-2nd grade classes will need 4 assistants, 3rd-5th grade classes will need 2 assistants). The classroom teacher will determine the number of projects (3-4) their class will create. There are many physical examples of projects with written directions and templates available for reference. Leads will be provided with a SignUp link, a scheduling software used for clay projects. Expect to spend about 3 hours per class project which includes prep, set-up, class time and clean up.
There is a school-wide clay team available to support each classroom team:
Daves Avenue Clay Lead - Cheryl Stuermer
Scheduling Lead - Amber Roe
All have invested multiple years into the clay program at Daves and are here to help! On request, a member of the clay team will walk through making a project with classroom volunteers.
Please email Cheryl at clay@davesavehsc.org with any questions.
Our big goal for the year is to reuse clay scraps that would otherwise be thrown in the garbage. Each class is being asked to use reclaimed clay for at least one project. There will be a workshop day announced at a later date for a clay team reclaiming and recycling day.
Workshops: Room 23
These workshops are for new and returning clay volunteers. Attendance at at least one fall workshop session is highly encouraged. It's fun to learn something new, bounce around ideas and share tips and tricks.
Each 2-hour workshop will be split into two parts:
First hour
Hope to see you in Room 23!
