Green Team
Are you or your child interested in joining the Grades of Green Team?
The student Green Team meets Tuesdays in the Daves Avenue Garden of Wisdom immediately after school until 3:30 pm. Students get a t-shirt and build friendships while learning to become stewards of the environment. Activities include maintaining the native & sensory garden, conducting science experiments, activism and learning about eco issues in our immediate world, and doing “green” projects around the school. We have had outside speakers, we might get a worm bin, we are building things - it is great. In addition to the regular educational topics and activities, this year we will focus on the growing and harvesting of food, and the impact of different environmental factors on our food supply. The theme will be "Seed to Feed". Join us!
Parents: we would love your help at the Green Team meetings. If that is not possible and you are interested in the environment, the Green committee also needs help behind the scenes to plan Earth Week, work on Trash Free Tuesday initiatives, prep for Green Team activities and more. We would love your help 1 hour a month, if possible. Any time you can contribute is great, but the success of the program depends in part on the parental support we get. Nothing helps a child understand commitment to a cause better than seeing the parents involved as well.

Crayola ColorCycle
Crayola ColorCycle is an amazing program devised to turn used markers into energy! Last school year Daves Avenue recycled over 6,000 colored markers! Lets beat that record this year!! Bring your used colored markers OF ANY BRAND, need not be Crayola, that are ready to be discarded. There is a box in the Daves Avenue workroom (where the copiers are), and you can simply dump them in there. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! This is a free and easy way for the kids to get involved with recycling for the greater good - no monetary return to our school, just the “right” thing to do rather than send them to the landfill! Brought to you by the Daves Avenue Grades of Green Team & Crayola ColorCycle |
Free Money AND Help the Environment! We’re excited to continue our fundraising program that turns your energy savings into donations, in partnership with a company called OhmConnect. This program is free to use, reduces our community's use of electricity from the worst polluting power plants, and can drive up to $10,000 in donations this year to Daves Avenue Home & School Club, to directly benefit our students. It is simple for you: sign up, turn off or down your electricity at home a couple times per week when they send you “Ohm Hour” notices (this happens when there is a peak use of electricity and they ask members to reduce usage at those times), and receive points that translate into $ for Daves Avenue! Sign up here with your PG&E online user account number: ohm.co/davesav1 (copy and paste web address if link doesn't work) With each registration using our code, OhmConnect automatically donates $20 to Daves Avenue! In addition, most families can ear $100/year for Daves Avenue for OhmConnect while helping the environment! This is a "free to me" program (similar to the idea of eScrip or Amazon Smile). Trash Free Tuesdays!
Tuesdays are ZERO WASTE at Daves! We are putting environmental awareness into practice by taking part in Trash Free Tuesdays (aka TFT) throughout the entire school year. Please help make our school and community greener by helping your child bring a trash free snack and lunch every Tuesday during the school year. Please help us reduce the amount of waste that we send to the landfill and teach some important lessons about conservation to our kids in the process! How do I know if my child's lunch is trash free?
We are aiming for all reusable or edible items....no trash and no recyclable items on Tuesdays! We're also working with the school to have all cafeteria lunches on Tuesday be Trash Free as well! As an added bonus, your child will have a chance to win fun prizes on TFTs! There will be random raffles held on some Tuesdays at lunch throughout the year. All kids with completely trash free lunches brought from home will receive a raffle ticket and a chance to win. Let's do all we can to help our environment. TFT lunches are a great place to start! Please help your child by packing a trash free lunch together every Tuesday. For more information on how to pack a trash free lunch, click here. |
