Daves Avenue Room Parent Responsibilities
The role of a Room Parent is to support and recognize the teacher and to organize other parents/guardians to help with:
Teacher Support
* Schedule volunteers for ongoing programs, projects, and special events, including:
-- parent/teacher conferences
-- regular instructional aid
-- field trips
-- class parties

Teacher Support
- Meet with teacher to determine classroom instructional and volunteer needs.
- Maintain a class email list to communicate all teacher needs and upcoming events to class parents, as requested by the teacher.
- Use Signup (www.signup.com), the school’s preferred volunteer scheduling application, to:
* Schedule volunteers for ongoing programs, projects, and special events, including:
-- parent/teacher conferences
-- regular instructional aid
-- field trips
-- class parties
- Attempt to achieve 100% parent participation in the classroom.
- Keep teacher up-to-date on the classroom volunteer schedule, including notifying him or her of last-minute changes.
Teacher Recognition
- Collect money from willing parents and make arrangements for holiday, birthday, and end-of-year gifts from the class to the teacher (e.g. a gift card to one of the teacher’s favorite stores and a craft project by the kids). The suggested donation per student is $30/year.
- Coordinate activities and projects to recognize the teacher’s efforts on Teacher Appreciation Day.
Special Events
- With teacher, determine which holidays or other events will be celebrated, and discuss guidelines for activities and food according to teacher preference.
- Oversee special events, including scheduling volunteers to oversee setup, activities, and cleanup, and organizing donations of food and supplies.
Home & School Club Liaison
- Attend monthly H&SC meetings and Room Parent meetings. These meetings are mandatory for at least one Room Parent per classroom.
- Support H&SC activities by recruiting volunteers to help with school events as needed.
- Read and act upon all communications and instructions from the Room Parent Coordinator.
